Having received a lovely gift of two balls of Adriafil Sir Biss wool, a project soon popped up. Pussy Hats for those off to see Pussy Riot at Byline! Bit of a mix of memes, but solid thematically 🙂
Inspired by the Pussy Hat project, it’s fundamentally just a knit-in-the-round hat, ribbed-brim, but instead of reducing, kitchener stitch it closed.
Knitted (most of) these while travelling – so tried circular needles for the first time in earnest. Really handy for a stop-start project which needs to be carted about.
It’s a very cool yarn – variegated in colour and thickness.
5mm circulars, magic loop.
CO 76 for my gauge – seems to fit a ~57cm head size quite nicely with a bit of stretch in the rib.
Stitch Accelerators
Mostly done while in Ireland. There to see an awesome version of Brian Friel’s “Faith Healer” in and around Glenties. As I warmed to the circulars, my speed increased – assisted with the best-tasting Guinness and kicking death metal tunes!
Uh-oh!
With only a couple of days to go before they needed to be finished, it became clear there wasn’t enough wool to finish each hat! Oh dear… what to do? After some cogitation, conclusion: the only right thing to do was to finish them with the same wool. That meant tracking it down.
Challenge accepted.
After trying everywhere I could find locally and online, I was left with one remaining option: where the yarn gifts came from originally. Luckily Emily still had some left at her Funky Knits shop in Amroth! Long drive later and a fun chat with Emily – it’s time to join ’em in and finish…
Another half ball of wool used on each hat to get the size about right (20-25cm or so from top to bottom), Kitchener stitch closed and done just in time to be taken to Byline!
