The last couple of years of flying the world on business and pleasure, the most I’ve had from security is curiosity about my in-flight knitting gear.
Knitting needles are approved for taking in your carry-on luggage. Happily so – what better way to chew time on long flights?
Enter the Estonian Security Zealot.
Flying back from Tallinn, the rules were “interpreted” by their security folks and they decided that “YOUR NEEDLES SHALL NOT PASS!”.
“They are metal and sharp.”
“They’re pointy not sharp. I could do more damage with in-flight cutlery than with a bunch of 3 and 4mm needles.”
Intransigence despite my appeals to logic and “the rules”.
I swearily gave up and punched the frowny face feedback button with all my might (childish, but satisfying).
So yeah. If you’re flying back from Estonia, take only plastic or wood needles in your carry-on.
(Written from the seat of a flight about to take off from Paris CDG. My knit bag is right in front of me, bulging with wool and *dangerous* knitting needles of various sizes!)
